BECKER COUNTY, Minn. — Authorities have released additional details following a tragic incident in rural Minnesota that left a man and a child dead in what investigators believe may be a murder-suicide.
According to the Becker County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were called to a residence in Holmesville Township, northeast of Detroit Lakes, at approximately 12:40 p.m. Monday. The call came from a man who reported concern for his brother, who had failed to report to work.
When deputies arrived at the home, they discovered the man inside, deceased from an apparent gunshot wound. During a subsequent search of the property, authorities also found a child dead, also suffering from a gunshot wound.
Officials have not yet released the identities of the victims, noting that family members are still in the process of being notified.
While the investigation remains active, the sheriff’s office indicated there is “no known threat” to the public, suggesting the incident appears to be isolated. Based on preliminary findings, authorities believe the case may involve a murder-suicide, though they emphasized that the circumstances are still under investigation.
